Thai Networks Signs 3G Tower Sharing Agreement

Published on:

Thailand's state owned TOT is reported to be about to sign a Bt1 billion (US$31 million) agreement to rent capacity on AIS's towers to host its own 3G network antennas over the next four years.

TOT president Anont Tubtiang told The Nation newspaper that co-siting TOT's equipment on 1,600 of AIS's cellular base stations was a good choice. Since TOT granted AIS's concession, it will get 25% of the rent back in the form of its concession lease.

In 2015, under the current concession agreement, AIS's network will transfer to TOT, although there may be moves by AIS to buy itself out of the transfer agreement.

Anont added that the co-siting would speed up TOT's deployment of about 3,000 3G base stations in 18 provinces by February, before raising the total to 5,320 stations in May.
