Android Market Removes Voicemmail App Following T-Mobile Complaint

Published on:

A visual voicemail app for Android smartphones has been removed from the Android Market, apparently following a complaint from T-Mobile in the USA that it was causing them network problems.

YouMail's Visual Voicemail application is seemingly still working though on the T-Mobile website, and indeed can still be downloaded from alternative Android app stores, such as the Amazon store.

In a bombastic posting on the company blog, YouMails's CEO, Alex Quilici claimed that the withdrawal of the app from the Android Market came without any warning from either the app store or T-Mobile, and he says that the mobile network operator never contacted the company to discuss any network problems.

He also noted that there are other apps that rely on the same network features we do and those aren't suspended. What's so different about YouMail he asked.

At the time of writing, T-Mobile hasn't answered that question.
