Four Arrested Over AT&T Hacking Attempt

Published on:

Four people have been arrested in the Philippines following an investigation into an attempt to hack into the mobile network of USA based AT&T.

AT&T's systems weren't compromised but some of its customers were targeted, spokeswoman Jan Rasmussen said.

Last week, AT&T confirmed that hackers had unsuccessfully attempted to link mobile numbers with online customer accounts. The company wrote off the fraudulent charges that had been applied to customer bills.

Although the company wont comment on the scale of the fraud, it has been reported by Philippine police to be in the region of US$2 million.

It is claimed that the arrested four are linked to a Saudi based Islamist terrorist group.
