Research in Motion Delays PlayBook OS Upgrade Until 2012

­Research in Motion has announced that it is delaying the launch of the upgraded operating system for its PlayBook tablet until next year.

The company said that it is delaying the launch until it has "fully met the expectations of our developers, enterprise customers and end-users", which is often code for the software has not been received that well by beta testers.

The company has also decided to defer the inclusion of the BBM application to a subsequent BlackBerry PlayBook OS release. In the meantime, BlackBerry smartphone users will be able to continue to use BlackBerry Bridge to access BlackBerry Messenger on the tablet.

The company now sexpects to deliver the new BlackBerry PlayBook OS to customers in February 2012.
