Turkish Network Blocks National Roaming Order
Turkey's GSM network, Turkcell has resorted to court action to prevent the telecoms regulator imposing a national roaming agreement with the new market entrant, Aria. The regulator had ordered the two companies to sign a commercial agreement by the end of business today. Aria is a joint venture between Telecom Italia Mobile and the local bank Is Bankasi.
In a statement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange, Turkcell said "A precautionary injunction has been taken out", adding that it was acting "in accordance with the international arbitration law because the document is impossible from a technical point of view and unacceptable from an economic point of view, and because the Telecommunications Board is not authorized to intervene in this issue,"
