Microsoft Planning $44 Million Ad Campaign to Support WP7 Smartphones in the UK

Published on:

Microsoft is reportedly preparing to sink £28 million (US$44 million) into co-branded advertising campaigns to support sales of Windows Phone based handsets from Nokia and Samsung in the run up to the end of year holiday season.

Sources told the trade publication, Mobile Today that Nokia will receive £20 million in advertising support, while Samsung will receive the remaining £8 million.

Nokia is expected to launch its first Windows Phone 7.5 based smartphone later this month, and advertising agencies are reported to be developing campaigns that will focus on the handset's social media integration as well as support for apps and games.

A source said: "Microsoft is funding a massive campaign with Nokia across every single media you can imagine. It's the last roll of the dice for them. They must go big, bad and boldly. Microsoft is desperate to kick the hell out of Android. If they can get across how amazing Mango is they could really crack it this time."
