Venezuela to Get a Cdma2000 Network
Published on:
Lucent and the Venezuela based cellular network, Movilnet have announced a US$150 million agreement to build a CDMA2000 wireless network to complement Movilnet's existing TDMA digital network. Movilnet will initially deploy CDMA2000 1X and the increased voice capacity will enable Movilnet to meet the expected subscriber growth outlined in its strategic plan. Movilnet's CDMA2000 and TDMA networks will coexist allowing the company to utilize its existing radio frequency spectrum.
"Movilnet will be able to keep its value proposition of offering advanced mobile communications services, which has been our goal since we moved to a digital network in 1996. We will continue to lead in the Venezuelan market and meet the challenge of being at the forefront," said Guillermo Olaizola, president of Movilnet.
"We are very pleased to work with Movilnet on this important project. We'll continue to provide our best-in-class products that will enable them to cost-effectively deliver advanced 3G services in this fast-growing and ever-changing environment," said Michel Deschapelles, Lucent Technologies regional vice president for Venezuela, Colombia, the Caribbean and Central America."
