Thailand's Thaicom is considering selling its Cambodian and Laos subsidiaries, citing poor performance in the highly competitive markets.
"We are pondering many alternatives, including pulling out of there. A decision on this matter should be made soon," Thaicom chief executive Suphajee Suthumpun said last week. "We may get rid of them, keep one of them, or keep both. It's all possible."
The MD of the Cambodian subsidiary's holding company told the PhnomPenh Post that the current situation is not favourable and the company is open to discussions with other interested parties.
It was also recently reported that Cambodia's overcrowded mobile market may see some much needed consolidation anyway, if Digital Star Media buys its smaller rival network, Excell following due-diligence on the company.
