Sprint Nextel Says AT&T Should Improve Network, Not Buy T-Mobile

Sprint Nextel, which is a strong opponent of the planned merger of AT&T and T Mobile USA has claimed that AT&T could avoid the spectrum capacity problems that it says it is facing by improving its network, rather than through buying T Mobile.

Sprint Nextel is presenting a technical analysis to the telecoms regulator, the FCC to outline its reasoning.

Sprint said its filing will assert that AT&T could increase its network capacity by more than 600 percent by 2015 by simply putting its current resources to better, more efficient use.

"AT&T could increase its capacity by developing its warehoused spectrum, accelerating its 4G network buildout, and implementing a more efficient network architecture," Sprint said in a statement.

However, an AT&T spokesman responded to the Reuters news agency by pointing out that Sprint Nextel doesn't manage its own network following a serviced management deal with Ericsson, and "shouldn't be giving advice to others".
