Apple's iPhone 5 to Sport 8-Megapixel Camera

Published on:

Apple has reportedly placed the bulk of the orders for the camera module for its forthcoming iPhone 5 with OmniVision, with a small (10%) block going to Sony.

In the case of Apple's iPhone 4, the 5-megapixel Backside Illumination (BSI) image sensor from Omnivision Technologies has been credited with enhancing image quality taken with the smart phone's camera.

The upcoming device will however feature a built-in 8-megapixel camera, the sources added.

Citing industry sources, DigiTimes also reported that Avago Technologies has won three of five orders to supply power amplifiers for the WCDMA version of the device for its first time. Avago used to supply amplifiers for older CDMA iPhones

Buoyed by orders for the iPhone 5, Avago is likely to see revenues generated from the handset segment increase by 15-20% sequentially, the sources said.
