Vodafone Criticised for Advert Taking Credit for Egyptian Uprising

Vodafone Egypt is facing a furious backlash in the country after a video advertisement was posted on the website of its ad agency that seems to, in part, take credit for the uprising that swept the former President Mubarak from power.
The advert has been particularly critisied as Vodafone's local staff obeyed orders from the former regime to shut down their networks during the uprising.
The advert was posted on the website of the ad agency, JWT and starts by commenting that "For 30 years Egyptians have been powerless." The interspersed with Facebook and Twitter posts and ends by saying "We didn't send people to the streets, we didn't start the revolution … We only reminded Egyptians how powerful they are."
Vodafone has denied commissioning the film, and the ad agency, JWT claims that it was for internal use only, without explaining how it ended up being posted on the company's public website.
