The UK's regulator of premium rate telephone services, PhonepayPlus has said that complaints from consumers fell by three-quarters over a two-year period, but complaints about mobile phone based services still top the chart. PhonepayPlus said that it received a total of 6,058 complaints in 2010.
However, complaints about premium rate services on mobile phones remain the number one source of consumer complaints to the regulator, accounting for 88% of complaints between 2008 and 2010. The regulator did not clarify how much of that percentage is current and how much is based on complaints from 2 years ago.
The PRS market in the UK is worth £810 million (US$1.3 billion) annually.
