Telstra Claims MNP Success in Australia

Telstra announced yesterday that some of Australia's biggest companies would shift their mobile phone services to Telstra from other carriers following the introduction of Mobile Number Portability last week. Telstra OnAir Head of Business Solutions, Murray Bergin, said Lend Lease, Tattersalls, Australian Co-operative Foods (Dairy Farmers), Stanley Works and South Pacific Tyres recently signed with Telstra from other carriers.

"Our corporate customer strategy is starting to pay dividends with some of Australia's biggest companies switching to our CDMA or GSM networks. We will announce further large corporate wins in coming weeks." Mr Bergin said BHP Billiton, Qantas and One Steel were just some of the companies that renewed their contracts with Telstra in the lead up to Mobile Number Portability. "In one example, a company with 4500 individual phones will continue to use Telstra's mobile networks along with many other large corporations," Mr Bergin said. "These companies were aware of the imminent introduction of MNP and decided Telstra best suited their mobile needs."

He did not specify what sort of incentives were offered to retain the existing and acquire new customers though."
