Wi-LAN Sues US Cable Networks

Published on:

Canadian holding company, Wi-LAN is launching another round of lawsuits - this time against Comcast, Time Warner and Charter Communications. WiLAN claims that these companies have infringed and continue to infringe WiLAN's U.S. Patent No. 5,761,602 by offering for sale, selling, operating, advertising and marketing cable systems and cable modem products.

WiLAN has a long history of suing telecoms firms for alleged infringements of its patents and often launched blockbuster attacks against large numbers of companies at once. Last month it WiLan launched a lawsuit against Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Exedea and LG Electronics, also in the USA.

WiLAN will be represented in this action by McKool Smith, a U.S. law firm specializing in intellectual property litigation. McKool Smith is representing WiLAN in other patent infringement actions in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
