Six mobile networks that operate a CDMA network in the 450Mhz spectrum have applied to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and their regulators for permission to use the spectrum for LTE services.
According to the chairman of the International 450 Association (IA450), Tina Radford, cited by 3D News, migration to LTE would the optimum way of developing the CDMA450 networks.
The representative of Vimpelcom Yelena Prokhorova confirmed that the technological characteristics of the 450 MHz band is suitable for networks of LTE, although there are also difficulties. Prokhorov warned that the distribution of frequency bands under certain technology - a lengthy and complicated procedure, and in Russia to add to this traditional problem with "cleaning up" of frequencies.
According to a representative of Megafon, the range of 450 MHz is suitable for the village, but not for the urban environment, where much more advantageous to use 2.2-2.7 GHz frequencies.
The six networks that are requesting access to LTE in the 450Mhz bands are: Russia's Sky Link, Latvia's Triatel, Belarusian Diallog, Czech Ufon, Mongolian G-Mobile and Romania's Telemobil.
