USA based AT&T says that it expects to launch its LTE network around the middle of next year and will cover some 70 75 million people by the end of 2011. The company is currently carrying out trials of the LTE networks in Dallas and Baltimore, said John Stankey, who heads AT&T's Business Solutions unit and oversees its networks.

Speaking at a Bank of America conference, Stankey said "We're not sitting on the sideline," adding that "we're actively working. We're actively evaluating the technology. We're actively working with our vendor base."

He also noted that the network operator would continue to improve its 3G network to manage voice calls, while routing data calls over the LTE network.

AT&T has spent over USD700 million in capital expenditures on LTE this year and will increase the spend during 2011.

Separately, Verizon Wireless expects to launch its LTE network in 30 major cities by the end of this year.
