Verizon Wireless Edges Closer to Android Tablet Launch

Verizon Wireless is reported to be planning to launch a tablet computer based on Google's Android operating system just in time for the peak holiday season. Citing an unnamed source, Download Squad has suggested a launch date of November 26th - which is the peak sales day in the USA, known as Black Friday - for the device which is being manufactured by HTC.
That a device is due to launch is itself not a surprise as earlier this year Verizon Wireless confirmed that it was working with Google on a new tablet computer.
"What do we think the next big wave of opportunities are?" Verizon Wireless' chief executive Mr. McAdam said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal back in May "We're working on tablets together, for example. We're looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience."
According to the latest report, the device will be probably based on NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform, have 2 GB of RAM, a 32 GB memory card, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, front-facing camera, and a 1280 x 720 multitouch display.
They add that thanks to operator subsidies, they expect the new device will be substantially cheaper than Apple's iPad - if not totally free - with a Verizon data contract.
