Sharp Planning Smartphone with 3D Display

Japan's Sharp Corp is planning to launch a smartphone that includes a screen that can display 3D images without the need for special glasses, a spokeswoman has told the Reuters news agency. The new phone will also likely have a 3D capable camera, the spokeswoman said and should be available early next year.
Sharp showed off a autostereoscopic 3D capable screen earlier this year, and has previously sold 3D enabled laptops and computer monitors.
The display is based on the parallax barrier, which is placed in front of the normal LCD and consists of a layer of material with a series of precision slits, allowing each eye to see a different set of pixels to create an effective 3D effect.
The effect is limited to people looking directly at the display - hence its limitation to smaller displays.
