China to Have 132 Million Cell Phone Users by Year End
The official China Daily newspaper has said that China expects to have 132 million cellular subscribers by the end of this year, citing the Ministry of Information Industry official, Xu Xiaotian. This figure represents a growth of 46.4 million subscribers this year, and there will b a growth of just 25 million new land-lines bringing that figure to 169 million. The MII says that the country had 117 million mobile subscribers by the end of June. If the growth profiles are maintained, then there will be more cell phones than land-lines in China by the middle of 2003, although an expected surge in internet connections could change that."
