RIM Buys BlackBerry Apps Developer

Research in Motion has brought Toronto-based, privately held BlackBerry apps developer, Viigo for an undisclosed amount. The company develops applications based around delivering news content to handsets and has developed a range of "modules" that users can plug in based on their interests.

In a very short statement, Viigo confirmed that "Our team has joined RIM's global organization and will continue to bring our expertise in BlackBerry application development and real-time content delivery to the BlackBerry platform. The Viigo for BlackBerry app will also continue to be available for download through BlackBerry App World."

The company was backed by Canadian venture capital group, Ventures West as well as the Royal Bank of Canada.
