Note -- this news article is more than a year old.
More rumours about the future plans for T Mobile USA have emerged after the company confirmed that it has had talks with other companies over setting up a joint venture.
"We continue to look at JV opportunities for additional spectrum... there are a number of different options we look at, (we) have been talking with cable companies, with Clearwire," Robert Dotson, chief executive of T-Mobile USA, told Reuters at an investor presentation on Thursday.
He added that the company is not expecting to benefit significantly from the US government's plans for a national broadband project.
Asked whether T-Mobile USA would consider teaming up with U.S. competitor Sprint Nextel, Dotson said: "What you never want to do is take one company that is going through challenges and take another company going through challenges".
Rumours about the future of the company have been rampant over the past year though.
In addition to the on-off rumours about a JV with Clearwire, the company is also said to be in talks with MetroPCS, reported Bloomberg News last September, citing one of the people close to the talks, who declined to be identified because negotiations are preliminary. Although MetroPCS is a CDMA operator, it has committed to a LTE launch next year, which would offer an upgrade path for T-Mobile.
