Swisscom Bills Alcatel for Network Failure

Swisscom is to issue a bill to Alcatel for over US$12 million for not fixing a known fault in its GSM hardware. The French newspaper, Le Matin claims that Alcatel were aware that the bug existed six days before Swisscom suffered a severe network failure on its GSM network, but failed to notify Swisscom of the problem. The problems were compounded when a backup system fell over due to the amount of traffic it was handling, and at one point, the entire GSM network had to be re-booted."
