LTE Network Failing to Exceed 12Mbps in Live Usage

The download speeds on TeliaSonera's Swedish LTE network has been reported to be falling significantly short of the headline "up to 50Mbps" being advertised. Analysis by market research company Northstream found that the download speed never exceeded 12Mbps, in comparison to launch demos of speeds averaging 40 Mbps.

Testing the network with an operator supplied Samsung LTE USB modem, the research firm reported that the upload speed was however an impressive 5Mbps, and network latency was also said to be very low.

However, they also reported rather frequent drops in service, even at locations where the signal strength indicators were full just a second earlier. They also reported that the drop down to HSPA did not seem to significantly affect the download speed.
