Macau's Companhia de Telecomunicaces de Macau (CTM) has signed a three year contract with Ericsson for the supply of a HSPA network upgrade. To meet the rising demands, CTM will expand the network coverage and capacity, and the download speed will be reaching up to 21Mbps.
Vandy Poon, CEO of CTM, says:"Our mobile market is experiencing a growing demand for mobile data services since we launched 3G network in 2007. In order to maintain our leading role in the competitive market, continued efforts must be made to enhance the networks and services to meet the needs of tomorrow. We will continue to devote substantial investments and resources, not only to provide customers with the fastest and most reliable 3G service in the market, but more importantly, the best experience they can enjoy both at work and leisure."
As the supplier of CTM's 3G core network, Ericsson provides end-to-end 3G solution by delivering and deploying the mobile soft switch and radio access network as well as related network rollout services for CTM.
The entire CTM 3G network will be upgraded to HSPA Evolution (HSPA+) network and the traditional E1 (2Mbps) landline backhaul network connecting the 3G core and the base stations will be replaced by an IP fiber network with 1000Mbps connectivity capacity to each base station.
