Congo Awards 4th Mobile License

The Republic of Congo is reported to have awarded a fourth mobile operating license to a subsidiary of Bahrain based Bintel. The company, Equateur Telecom Congo (ETC) already operates in Gabon, Central African Republic and Somalia.
"This new business will help develop our economy," Thierry Lezin Moungalla, Congo's minister for post and telecommunications, said at a ceremony in Brazzaville to present the licence, reported the Reuters news agency.
According to data from the Mobile World analysts, the incumbent mobile operator market shares are Zain (49.7%), MTN (41.9%) and Warid (8.5%). The country has a population penetration level of just over 70%.
