Sacked by SMS
A dental nurse working in Singapore has been made redundant by means of a SMS message, according to an article in the Malaysian The Star newspaper. She was working at a clinic in Hougang and had refused a transfer to another clinic. After she left work, she received a message that read "As you can't come down to Amara; today will be your last day. Your cheque will be ready on Wednesday." Lawyers in Singapore say that the message has the same legitimacy as being notified by a voice call over a mobile phone."
