Nokia Sues Over Allegations of LCD Display Price Fixing

Nokia has filed lawsuits in the UK and USA against a number of companies, alleging that they operated price-fixing cartels for mobile phone display screens. The lawsuit also includes claims against computer monitor display suppliers, who had sold components to a former Nokia subsidiary, Nokia Display Products.
"The LCDs were incorporated into Nokia mobile wireless handsets," according to the complaint. The cartel actions "artificially inflated the price of LCDs ultimately incorporated into LCD products purchased by Nokia, causing Nokia to pay higher prices."
The companies named in the suits included AU Optronics, LG, Philips, Samsung, Seiko Epson, Sharp, Toshiba and Hitachi. Earlier this year, Hitachi agreed to settle an investigation by US authorities into price fixing for computer displays. LG Display, Chunghwa Picture Tubes and Sharp had already pleaded guilty in that particular investigation.
The Nokia lawsuit cites the earlier investigation by the US Justice Department in its own lawsuit.
Last month, AT&T also filed a similar lawsuit against display manufacturers.
