Huawei has announced the completion of a joint LTE test with Telecom Italia.
Using 14 LTE cells on the existing mobile broadband infrastructure in Turin, the
test successfully showcased a downlink speed of over 140Mb/s per cell,
demonstrated by three simultaneous connections.
Telecom Namibia says that vandals cut the fiber-optic cables that act as a
backbone for its WiMAX and CDMA networks in the Otjozondjupa region, disabling
fixed and mobile communications services to thousands of customers in
Okamatapati and surrounding farms last week. The vandals also cut down and
carried away a telephone pole and a 20 metre long piece of the fibre cable.
Saudi Arabian operator, Mobily has announced that pilgrims visiting the country
for the Hajj can get local phone numbers using the same SIM cards they brought
with them, and eliminate inbound roaming call costs and avoid having to keep
swapping SIM cards in their handset.
Hutchison 3G UK has ordered its sales outlets to stop selling mobile broadband
subscriptions to customers living in areas of poor coverage. The suspension
follows feedback from customers who said they would prefer a more honest
approach to the quality of service they can expect.
Movistar Venezuela has upgraded its existing mobile data download service
(HSDPA) to improve the upload link as well (HSUPA). The upgrade covers the main
cities.
