Telefonica 3rd-Quarter Profits Dip Slightly
Telefonica has reported a slight fall in its 3rd quarter profits to EUR 1.99 billion (US$2.98 billion) from 2 billion euros a year ago. Reveneus were down by 5.7% to EUR14.13 billion.
In absolute terms, Telefónica Latinoamérica contributed 39.8% (+2.0 percentage points compared to the same period in 2008) to total Group revenues, while Telefónica España and Telefónica Europe contributed 35.1% and 24.1% of overall revenue respectively.
The Telefónica Group had over 205 million wireless subscribers at the end of the third quarter, with net adds in January-September 2009 of slightly over 10 million subscribers. There was a significant rise in commercial activity in the third quarter 2009, with net adds of around 5 million subscribers, in line with the figure for the first half and almost double the level in the second quarter.
