Botswana Telecommunications Corp has commissioned Ceragon Networks to upgrade
its nationwide wireless backbone as well as the backhaul network of its cellular
subsidiary BeMobile. Equipment orders related to this deployment top $1.5
million. Deployments are already under way and are expected to be completed by
the end of 2009.
Zain Ghana has selected Aircom to act as consultants on its upgrade to a HSPA
network. Formerly MTC, Zain has pledged to invest more US$400 million in Ghana
on the network upgrade.
Starting next month, Hungary's Pannon
and postpaid T-Mobile customers will be able to access the Nokia Messaging push
e-mail service. The Nokia Messaging service can be tested for 30 days free of
charge. Following the test period it will be available for a monthly charge.
Zain Nigeria is to install a reverse charge facility supplied by Telenity to
enable prepay subscribers who have run out of credit to bill the cost of their
calls to the recipient.
Tekelec says that it has supplied a mobile number portability platform to Manx
Telecom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telefónica O2.
Bulgaria's Globul is to offer a 5% reduction on the mobile phone bill to
subscribers who also take out the company's landline service, with a further 10%
reduction to subscribers to its mobile internet packages.
Vodafone Czech Republic is launching an offer of 77 free MMS messages per month
for the next four months for its subscribers. Customers have to apply for the
free bundle, which continues after the free period with a monthly fee.
