Mobile Number Portability for the UAE Expected Early 2010
The United Arab Emirates could permit mobile number portability from next year, local media is reporting. An offical at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) told the Arabic daily Al Ittihad that MNP would only be available to subscribers who had a mobile phone for over a year though.
Etisalat declined to comment, and TRA was unavailable for further clarification and details.
According to figures from the Mobile World analysts, Etisalat ended the first half of this year with some 7.3 million mobile phone subscribers, which sole rival, Du had 2.9 million subscribers. Earlier this year, Du signed a marketing partnership with Vodafone.
