Alcatel-Lucent Deploys CDMA EV-DO Upgrade in Shanghai
Alcatel-Lucent says that China Telecom, through its subsidiary Shanghai Telecom, successfully tested and validated Alcatel-Lucent's multicarrier EV-DO solution, based on the Rev. B standard. The contract was signed through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's Chinese subsidiary.
Leveraging CDMA's upgrade advantages, Shanghai Telecom launched China's first CDMA EV-DO commercial network in March and completed CDMA coverage of Shanghai's rural and urban areas three months later. Alcatel-Lucent has provided all of Shanghai Telecom's CDMA networks, except for Chongming island in Shanghai.
Furthermore, Alcatel-Lucent is going to launch a field trial of multicarrier EV-DO with China Telecom in Q4 this year, to help the carrier provide high-quality 3G services during the World Expo.
"Alcatel-Lucent is committed to helping Shanghai Telecom enhance the user experience of its 3G subscribers. Through a cost-effective CDMA software upgrade, Alcatel-Lucent enables our customers to supply state-of-the-art mobile broadband services," said Olivia Qiu, President of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell and of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in East Asia.
