E-Readers Trump Game Consoles & MP3 Players on Holiday Wish Lists
e-Readers are positioned to be a hot-selling gadget this holiday season. A recent Gadgetology study commissioned by Retrevo.com asked a large online sample of individuals if they were planning on buying an e-Reader this year. The response indicated 1 in 5 intended to purchase an e-Reader before the end of 2009.
The study also showed, of respondents, 1 in 4 men intend on purchasing an e-Reader, compared to 1 in 6 women. The Amazon Kindle, attracted 62% of shoppers, while the Sony Reader attracted 32%. Another 6% favored an alternative brand of e-Reader.
"e-Readers have come a long way in recent months, and with so many new innovations on the horizon, like color, lighter, more durable frames, and access to more content, e-Readers are fast becoming the must-have gadget," says Retrevo CEO Vipin Jain.
According to the study, 25 - 34 year-olds led other age groups with 40% of their peers indicating interest in buying an e-Reader, followed by the 35 - 45 year-old age group with 22% intending to buy an e-Reader. Mid and high income households comprised the largest segment of potential e-Reader buyers with 33% of those with annual household incomes in the $100,00 - $200,000 range, followed by 16% in the $50,000 - $100,000 range.
Although the study indicated other categories like HD-TVs and Netbooks were higher on more respondents' holiday wish lists, e-readers beat Game Consoles and MP3 players.
