Alcatel-Lucent Upgrading Brazilian Network
Alcatel-Lucent says that it has deployed a packet optical transport and microwave packet radio backhaul network for TIM Brazil in its metropolitan markets.
Alcatel-Lucent also is providing comprehensive professional services including consulting, network design, project management, installation and commissioning as part of the agreement.
"The success of our 3G services is driving the demand for new and higher-speed services. To meet the resulting traffic growth, we needed to transform our infrastructure into a simpler network architecture ensuring cost-effectiveness and the highest quality in service delivery" said Marco Di Costanzo, Network Director of TIM Brasil. "With Alcatel-Lucent's state-of-the-art packet transport solution, we evolve profitably towards the next generation of wireless broadband, while preparing for LTE and WiMAX-based services."
The Alcatel-Lucent managed solution is based on its 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS) and 9500 Microwave Packet Radio (MPR), which are part of the Mobile Evolution Transport Architecture (META), implementing features like T-MPLS and service driven adaptive modulation. The solution optimizes traffic transport and aggregation from the base stations to the core network handling multiple traffic types onto the same platform. Additionally, it automatically allocates the appropriate bandwidth to ensure services are delivered according to the required quality.
