Swisscom Launching Availability Alerts Service

­Switzerland based operator, Swisscom says that it is preparing to launch an "availability" SMS service. The new service, to be launched in October will send a free SMS to customers notifying them when a person they have been trying to call is available again.

The service comes into play if the person being called is on the phone, has no mobile coverage or has switched the phone off. If no message is left on the COMBOX, the calling party receives a free SMS as soon as the person they are trying to reach becomes available. This saves callers from having to repeatedly call the number.

The service will compliment the existing COMBOX and SMS call notification service for missed calls.
