ZTE Partners with Icon Private Equity to Build WiMAX Network in Ukraine

­ZTE says that it has won a WiMAX deployment contract in Ukraine from Icon Private Equity's portfolio company, Ukraine High Technologies (UHT). The network, operating in the 3.5 GHz spectrum is due to be completed in the fourth-quarter of this year.

Under this phase one exclusive contract agreement with UHT, ZTE is providing technical expertise and solutions to help construct a WiMAX network that covers Ukraine's capital city Kiev and the surrounding areas. The contract comprises of more than 250 WiMAX base stations, 6,000 WiMAX terminal products and core network equipment to support the network.

"We are pleased to join our efforts with Icon Private Equity to establish its WiMAX network in Ukraine in order to meet the country's strong market demand," said Mr. Zhao Songpu, Chief Executive Officer of WiMAX Products, ZTE Corporation. "The partnership fully demonstrates our leading position in the WiMAX arena through closely collaborating with Icon PE to deliver innovative and tailor-made WiMAX technologies and products in Ukraine."

Icon Private Equity is a private equity fund in Russia and CIS. UHT is a portfolio company of Icon PE and was awarded a 3.5GHz WiMAX network license in 2006 to provide WiMAX service in Ukraine.
