Zain Upgrades Kuwaiti Network to Support 21.6 Mbps Download Speeds

Zain Kuwait says that it has upgraded and expanded its network to support peak mobile data download speeds up to 21.6 Mbps, with a HSPA upgrade.

The Chief Executive Officer of Zain Kuwait engineer Khalid AL-Hajeri said in this occasion : "This is great news for our mobile broadband customers who can now enjoy surfing the internet at speeds up to 21.6 Mbps inside Kuwait".

He said: "Zain is the first company in the region to provide broadband speeds up to 21.6 Mbps. This will surely enhance the experience of our customers while browsing, downloading large files in addition to streaming live broadcast of television channels & radio stations on the internet. In addition Zain will also be providing devices that support broadband speed up to 21.6 Mbps to the market in the coming weeks.

According to figures from the Mobile World, Zain ended Q1 '09 with just over 1.78 million customers, representing a market share of 51%. Of their base, an estimated 500,000 are using the operator's 3G network.
