Ascom Wins Prison Communications System Contract

Ascom Denmark says that it has secured an order in a public tender from the Danish Prison Authorities for a wireless communication system with positioning functionality to improve personal security for staff members. The order value is DKK 8 million in the first phase and will total over DKK 30 million (US$5.7 million) when the complete system is installed.

The new wireless communication system provided by Ascom Wireless Solutions will be implemented in three phases and will cover six prisons and 34 custody detention centers. In total, the system will increase the personal security for about 3,500 employees working in these institutions.

Ascom will supply an IP-DECT based personal safety solution which combines communication, personal security and positioning in a single handset for all staff.

"It is a crucial factor for us that the Ascom system offers accurate positioning in order to ensure that help arrives immediately in an emergency. Knowing that colleagues are just seconds away increases the safety among staff and improves the working environment," says Michael Gjorup, Security Manager of the Danish Prison Authorities.

"We are delighted that we have won the trust of the Danish Prison Authorities. This contract is an important milestone for Ascom Denmark A/S and strengthens Ascom's position as the leading supplier of personal security systems for demanding environments," says Eskild Beiter, Managing Director of Ascom Denmark.
