Synchronica Wins Mobile Email Contract in Nth Africa

Mobile email vendor, Synchronica says that it has received a purchase order from an unnamed North-African mobile operator for an initial 20,000 user license of its mobile email product Mobile Gateway. The order is the first order received through a network equipment provider, emphasising the importance to Synchronica of using channel partners.

Synchronica's technology does not require an additional software client to be downloaded to the handset and enables push email for the broadest range of handsets.

A recent study from Ernst & Young (Africa Connected: A telecommunications growth story) found that market penetration of mobile phones in Africa has grown rapidly and has now reached 37%. According to the study, market penetration is expected to rise to more than 60% by 2012. From 2002, Africa has seen its number of mobile phone subscribers climb by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 49.3%, compared to a CAGR of about 27.5% in Brazil and Asia.

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, said, "This deal re-affirms the validity of our strategy to use major global resellers to introduce our award winning technology into a wide variety of countries and operators, thus driving our organic growth. The African telecommunications market is expanding at pace and with growth expected to be faster than any other region over the next three to five years, it is key for Synchronica's strategy. Operators are looking to use Mobile Gateway to increase ARPU and reduce churn by introducing addictive data services to the mass-market. Unlike many other vendors, we can offer operators products which can address the entire range of handsets resulting in faster takeup-rate and helping to reduce churn, attract new customers and drive additional revenues."
