Alcatel-Lucent Wins Chinese 3G Contract
Alcatel-Lucent says that a local consortium has won a TD-SCDMA contract from China Mobile covering the deployment of its phase III TD-SCDMA mobile networks in 11 provinces. The contract was won by Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, and Datang Mobile.
Alcatel-Lucent and Datang Mobile will expand their TD-SCDMA footprints into 11 provinces namely Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanxi, Anhui, Liaoning, Gansu, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Guizhou. Notably, the consortium secured prominent market positions in Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, the four provinces with the highest gross domestic product (GDP) and network growth potential in China.
"In order to improve customer satisfaction, Datang Mobile has made large efforts around the TD-SCDMA technology and products both through continuing innovation and development in this space as well as leveraging the live network experience", said Xie Yongbin, President of Datang Mobile. "We believe that Datang Mobile and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell will enhance their strategic partnership and continue the win-win cooperation in the future development of TD-SCDMA".
In December 2008, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell and Datang Mobile provided their TD-SCDMA solutions for 11 of the 28 cities covered by China Mobile's phase II TD-SCDMA network.
