Vodafone Ghana Adds 800,000 Subscribers in Three Months
Vodafone Ghana has signed up some 800,000 new subscribers since its re-launch in April this year. The company's head of corporate communications, Major Albert Don Chebe (rtd) announced the figures at a press conference last week.
Major Chebe said the company had also created more than 7,000 direct and indirect jobs in sales and distribution throughout the country.
"We have appointed 14 regional distributors to ensure the availability of Vodafone products nationwide, and have injected a healthy competition and dynamism into the telecommunications industry", he said, adding that "fault resolution time has been enhanced significantly, while corporate business is showing strong growth, an indication of confidence by business, government and corporate customers in the company's capability,"
In August 2008, Vodafone completed the acquisition of a 70% stake in Ghana Telecom for $900 million on a debt-free, cash-free basis. The Ghanaian parliament approved the sale, despite criticism from the opposition party who believed that the shares were undervalued and had claimed that the deal wasn't in the national interest.
Based on figures from the Mobile World's Q1 statistics, Vodafone Ghana had 1.8 million customers just before it rebranded its network in April.
