Telecom Italia Launches 28Mbps Mobile Download Service
Published on: 1st Jan 1970: 1:33am
Telecom Italia has launched what it says is the first city-wide mobile broadband service offering peak speeds of 28 Mbps/s in download and 5.8 Mbps/s in upload. The service has launched in Milan, Italy and will be available in Rome from October. The upgrade was provided by Ericsson.
The new mobile broadband network platform is based on MIMO technology (Multiple Input and Multiple Output), a solution that uses two radio antennas at the same time to transmit data to a single consumer. This makes it possible to provide higher speeds in data transmission and improve spectrum efficiency in the mobile network.
Telecom Italia will gradually extend the mobile broadband coverage at national level.
Both Milan and Rome are the test-beds for Telecom Italia's upgrade to LTE, which is also being provided by Ericsson with a launch due next year.
