DragonWave Wins Canadian Wireless Backhaul Contract

Wireless Ethernet backhaul vendor, DragonWave says that it has won a contract from Canada's new mobile network, Globalive for its network, which is currently under construction.

"As we build Canada's newest wireless network, our commitment is to provide Canadian consumers with unmatched value", asserts Ken Campbell, CEO of Globalive Wireless Management Corp. "For that, we need future-ready technology that enables the delivery of high-capacity, cost-effective IP-based services."

DragonWave says that its Horizon Compact product allows companies to meet the growing demand for more bandwidth without the expense of building or expanding a fibre backbone. DragonWave Horizon and AirPair products operate in both licensed and unlicensed radio frequencies between 6 and 38 GHz, and delivers pure "packet" microwave performance with software scalable, ultra-low latency transport of up to 1.6 Gbps per link.

"We are excited to have been selected for the Globalive 3G network. This win represents our largest Canadian network to date and it is particularly pleasing that our solutions, which have been entirely developed in our Ottawa based R&D facilities, will be used in our home market. This is an important showcase network for us", says DragonWave President and CEO Peter Allen. Adds Globalive CEO Ken Campbell, "We are not only pleased to be making a significant investment in Canadian technology, but also to be creating Canadian jobs in an innovative sector at a time when our country needs them the most. This is exactly in line with Canada's need to transform itself into a more competitive, knowledge-based economy."
