Alcatel Lucent Planning 1,000 Job Cuts in France

A French union has claimed that Alcatel Lucent is preparing to cut a further 1,000 job in France over the next two years. The unnamed source told Dow Jones Newswires that the job cuts would affect several units, notably administrative and sales positions and some industrial activities.

"More regional job-cut announcements could follow soon," the source added.

Alcatel-Lucent declined to comment.

The company cut 1,500 out of 12,500 jobs in France following its merger at the end of 2006. The company had previously disclosed plans to cut 12,500 jobs worldwide by 2009
