Operators Increasing Spending on Subscriber Data Management Services

Although many mobile network operators are lowering their capital expenditure budgets for 2009 and early 2010, spending on subscriber data management (SDM) software will actually increase, reports Infonetics Research.

The report noted that subscriber data management (SDM) software is viewed as a key opex reduction play, helping operators improve their bottom lines by reducing revenue leakage, speeding time to market for new services, and streamlining fulfillment of mobile data service.

"Subscriber data management solutions are increasingly being viewed as strategic tools that can help operators better monetize their existing assets. Fixed and mobile networks and OSS/BSS systems contain a staggering amount of valuable data that operators must be able to extract, normalize and analyze, but to do so, they need a platform that can pull that data together and act as a centralized repository. This recognition will drive the worldwide subscriber data management market to $853 million by 2013," said Shira Levine, directing analyst for next gen OSS and policy at Infonetics Research.

Infonetics also expects that merger and acquisition activity is expected to heat up, with vendors such as Xeround and Blueslice representing appealing targets for large players looking to round out their next generation Home Location Register (ngHLR) and Home Subscriber System (HSS) solutions.

In conclusion, the primary challenge for operators in implementing SDM strategies at this point is overcoming legacy mindsets and eliminating the walls that exist among various organizations within the service provider.
