Nokia Denies Reports It is Working on Android Based Smartphone

A report over the weekend that Nokia is working on a smartphone based on the Android platform has been denied by the handset manufacturer. The UK Guardian newspaper, citing industry insiders reported that the new touchscreen device will be unveiled at the Nokia World conference in September.

However, Nokia has said that the reports were untrue, adding: "There is no truth to this story whatsoever. It is a well known fact that Symbian is our platform of choice for smartphones."

Nokia brought out its partners in the Symbian platform last year, and then released the operating system as open-source - pitching it directly at the Android and Mobile Linux OS platforms, both of which are also open sourced.
