Sony Ericsson Android Phone Might Use Qualcomm's Snapdragon Platform
Details of Sony Ericsson's first Android based smartphone have been posted online - under the codename of "Rachael". The mobil.nu website says that it has seen internal Sony Ericsson documents that show the phone will be marketed under the Xperia range and will be based on the Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon platform.
The HSPA enabled phone is also reported to be sporting an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and a large screen reaching 4" across the diagonal.
Sony Ericsson is likely to out-source the production of its initial Android based smartphones to Taiwan's Foxconn Electronics, DigiTimes reported in April, citing a report in the Chinese language Commercial Times newspaper. The Chinese newspaper, citing an internal document from mobile network operator, Orange indicated that the MNO is working with Sony Ericsson for an Android handset launch around Q3 of this year.
At the same time though, Sony Ericsson's Chief Executive Hideki Komiyama told Reuters in an interview that the launch of the firm's first Sony Ericsson handset might be delayed due to extended testing of the user interface.
