Vodafone Essar Told to Stop Cricket Promotion
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked Vodafone's Indian subsidiary to stop its World Twenty20 promotion campaign and stop using the organisation logos on its marketing materials. The ICC has warned that it might take legal action if necessary.
"The use of our event marks and logos creates a clear link with the event and implies that Vodafone has an official association with ICC and the ICC World Twenty20. As you know, it has no such formal association. As such, Vodafone is acting unlawfully," David Becker, legal head of the International Cricket Council, said in a letter to Vodafone Essar, seen by the Press Trust of India.
When contacted, ICC sources confirmed sending such a letter and a Vodafone Essar spokesperson told PTI, "We are unable to comment as we are yet to see the letter."
However, it is worth noting that Vodafone Essar is just the carrier for content that is reportedly being provided by ESPN Star.
