MobileOne Modernizes 2G Network
Singapore's MobileOne (M1) will add Internet Protocol (IP) capabilities to its 2G network as part of a network modernization initiative. The modernization will be undertaken by Nokia Siemens Networks and is expected to be complete by 2011.
The upgrade to an all IP network is a step for M1 in its move towards Long Term Evolution (LTE), and will provide a smooth transition path to 4G.
“This network modernization is in line with our strategy to invest for the future. It will enable us to prepare for the future needs of our customers and to continue to offer them the optimal level of service that they are accustomed to. The introduction of the latest radio technology will also allow us to use and manage our energy and spectrum resources more efficiently,” said Karen Kooi, Chief Executive Officer of M1.
The company will also provide network optimization and related maintenance services to ensure high network quality under a five year contract.
