Serbia Awards Two CDMA Fixed-Wireless Licenses
Serbia's Telekom Srbije and Media Works have both been granted 10-year fixed wireless licenses based on CDMA technology. Four companies submitted bids, Telekom Srbija, KDS, Digi Sat and Media Works, but only two were shortlisted and offered a tender of EUR 540,000 (US$734,000) per license.
The two companies are required to start commercial operations within six months.
Telekom Srbije, which is 20% owned by Greece's OTE will also face the loss of its landline monopoly later this year when the government liberalises the market.
Serbian firm, Media Works was recently brought by Dutch based Greenhouse Telecom, which also recently brought Serbian ISP, Neobee.net.
